The Maine Reef Creations on Pinterest

Here is my most recent creation. A Nudibranch inspired by a photo I found on line by Kevin Lee....

I only recently learned about Pinterest. Amazing that I got on board with a new Social Media app in it's early days! But this happens to be a great way and place to  post the images of my reef creations along        with the photos from the web that inspired them.

    VERY COOL!

    Check it out!

Maine's Denmark Sheefest April 21st, 2012

Denmark Sheepfest
Saturday April 21, 2012   9:30 - 4PM
Denmark Arts Center
50 West Main St. (Route 160), Denmark, Maine

Enjoy a fun Fiber Day in Denmark, Maine at the Denmark Arts Center. This event began in 1995 as a gathering for fiber folks who had a few sheep that needed shearing. A few folks gathered with sheep in tow and hired a shearer to come and harvest their fleeces. Now many years later, it has evolved into a day filled with shearing, demonstrations, supplies and equipment for sale and classes along with good old fashioned camaraderie! This year Jan Windsor will be there with some of her work and will also be sharing patterns and information about the Maine Reef Project.

Thanks Jan and hope you all have a great day!

Maine Reef Blog Being Viewed by the World!

Here is some interesting trivia for you about the Maine Reef Project......

This blog is linked to Sitemeter which is a statistic recording app that tells us how many hits we get each day on our blog. Additionally, it lists the names of the country where those visitors comes from. Amazing but kind of scary at the same time!

Anyway, thought you might enjoy learning what countries have shown up on our reports besides the US in the last few months......

United Kingdom
Portugal
Canada
Poland
Brazil
Germany
Malaysia
Bermuda
Germany
Qatar
Australia
Greece
Egypt
Spain
Russia
France
The Netherlands

I thought this was pretty awesome!

Guess we are indeed part of a "worldwide" project......

Crocheted Fish Pattern

Check out this adorable fish pattern provided by the French Colouer Machine blog. Although the pattern is written in French, the diagrams are very easy to follow if you are a crocheter. It's made with both yarn and plarn  which is plastic yarn made from thin clear plastic grocery type bags cut into strips.

Photo is by MarieMade.

The link to this pattern is also on our patterns page.

Display of Samples of the Maine Reef

The Scarborough Public Library is readying for their first ever Textile Day on Saturday March 24th from 10:30 - 3:30 and the Maine Reef will be there to let their patrons know about the project and how they can participate!

The library has information on display about the Worldwide Project and our Maine efforts, along with free patterns and information about how people can participate. They are also an official drop site for any contribution of completed pieces or donations of yarn and hooks.

Celeste Shinay, Manager of Programming and Development along with the rest of the library staff are very excited about their upcoming event and we are delighted to be included!

Several of our Project volunteers  will be presenting at the event with bells on and will offer crochet instruction, information and encouragement to the public in hopes of increasing community participation in our amazing project...

Thank you Scarborough Library for letting us come and share this opportunity with your patrons!
