Biddeford Artwalk Event January 27th

On the last Friday of every month, Biddeford hosts an event called Artwalk from 5 - 8pm. This event features art displays and presentations at various locations throughout Main street and in the Mills.

The Heart of Biddeford Office at 205 Main Street will be the venue for Reef liaison Ann Thompson will give an informational presentation about the Maine Reef Project. Additionally, anyone can come to learn how to crochet as well as create a piece for the reef. There will be a small display of completed works to see and pattern flyers will be available that folks can take home.

Heart of Biddeford is also hosting a mini fiber workshop and our own Julie Yarborough will be teaching a basic felt class where anyone can learn how to felt a ball for a small fee.

The Biddeford community is great about supporting the Arts and cultural interests. In this tough economy it's a pleasure to see a free cultural event that helps support the locals and can expose especially children to the local art community. I hope some of you can make it over there next Friday night and participate in this art opportunity. The Main Street area in Biddeford has some surprisingly good restaurants as well so why not make it a night out!

For more information about the event, please visit  the Upcoming Biddeford Artwalk website.

Crochet Clouds - Another Blending of Science, Math and Ecolgy

Imagine the idea of creating mathematically correct crocheted clouds (fractiles) that could hang in arid climates and collect moisture from fog in the air as a source of fresh water!

Reef Contributions Deadline September 1, 2012

Happy New Year to all of you out there!

Hopefully now that the holidays have passed, we can all spend a bit more time focusing on ramping up our reef creations!
I got an email from a woman who picked up a flyer at Fryeburg Fair and wanted to know if it was too late to send pieces in. NO, it's Absolutely not too late! We will be accepting pieces at least until September 1st. So all of you out there that were busy creating for charities and church fairs can now breathe and take an hour or two to create a little creature for the reef project. OR become obsessed as I have and create your own little atoll as Jan Winsor from Gorham, Maine  is doing.

Here are a few pictures of her first free form attempt. Great job Jan! Best of all she says she had a lot of fun creating it!  Jan has been a fiber artist for some time but just began crocheting at the end of last summer. It's easy! You just have to not worry about being perfect or making mistakes.

Until next time..... Keep creating :-)
